ABSTRACT INFORMATION
'Checking In With My Chickens'

Join Florida Agriculture in the Classroom as we learn all things poultry. Participants will do 4 to 5 make and take activities that will cover topics like the life cycle of a chicken, egg candling, parts of a chicken, fun math activity using measurements of chicken coops, and an embryology/countdown to hatching a chick book. Each participant will receive an egg candling kit to make their own egg candler. This will be a hands-on session with lots of goodies to take home!

Biosketch: Mrs. Jennifer Morgenthal joined FAITC this year! She is an Education Specialist. She comes to us from Williston, FL. The land of watermelon, peanuts, cattle and timber! She was Valedictorian of her graduating class from Williston High School. Her love for the industry was built by her agriculture teachers, Marcia Smith, Chris Wilder and the late Robert Philpot. She attended the University of Florida and earned her Bachelors in Agricultural Education and Communications. She started her teaching career at Freedom High School and Steinbrenner High School in Hillsborough county. She then moved into online education as an instructor with Florida Virtual School. She is married to Ryan Morgenthal and has 2 sons, Royce and Reese and one daughter, Rose. She has a deep passion for the agriculture industry and loves education!

Biosketch: Becky Sponholtz is the Executive Director of Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc., a post she has held since February 2017. Before that, she served as FAITC's Education Program Manager. Before that, she was a middle and high school agri-science instructor and FFA advisor for nine years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and her Master of Agriculture from Auburn University. She is married to Corbin Sponholtz and has a son, Landon and daughter, Chandlee.
