'Bushels or Bust – Teaching Economics Through Game-Based Lessons' |
|
---|---|
Educators will learn a fun and innovative method for teaching students the concepts of economics. Developed as an interactive activity for agriculture education days, Bushels or Bust allows students to take a crop from seed to harvest by making decisions and taking on risk provided by nature and fluctuating market prices. The ultimate goal of the activity was to allow students to understand that farmers have little control over the fate of their crops, but it also provides a wonderful framework to teach how certain events affect supply and demand, prices received, and the impact of using capital for resources. The speaker will show how the game can be modified for different age groups, K-12. Following the session, participants will receive one game with instructions.
