Diane Merrion Cook County Farm Bureau-Ag in the Classroom 708-354-3276 aitc@cookcfb.org Diane Merrion is the Ag in the Classroom Coordinator for the Cook County Farm Bureau near Chicago, IL. Her AITC program reaches out to a large urban community and includes visiting over 20,000 students each year in school classrooms and community programming. Noting the absence of a camp for youth interested in summer learning, specifically in agriculture, the idea behind this program evolved and filled to capacity immediately. The Passport to the Farm Camp received the AFBF County Activities of Excellence Award in 2013 and was also supported with a White Reinhardt mini grant.Ms. Merrion continues to develop new ways to connect urban students with agriculture such as Ag Days for 3rd graders, Job Shadowing and Ag Leadership Academy for High School students and community programs such as summer library visits and teacher professional development. Ms. Merrion was a recipient of the 2014 Perry Schneider Special Award for contributions in improving and expanding Illinois Agriculture Education. |
