'Biofuels as Renewable Energy' |

Minnesota AITC recently (2014) partnered with the Minnesota Biofuels Association to develop a new biofuels-based renewable energy DVD titled Biofuels as Renewable Energy: Exploring the Present and Future. The MN Biofuels Association funded the project and provided technical review. Minnesota AITC produced the DVD and developed a companion Teacher Resources component. The goal was to demonstrate the research and discover challenge to finding new sources of biofuel beyond corn, to provide student-friendly stories on ethanol and biodiesel processsing, and to demonstrate to students and teachers the STEM, career exploration and science applications inherent in the renewable energy industry. Alan Withers MN Ag in the Classroom - MN Dept. of Agriculture 651-201-6688 alan.withers@state.mn.us Al Withers is the long-time program director and state contact in Minnesota, having initiated the program in 1985. The program provides various student-directed educational materials, teacher professional development and outreach to the K-16 education community. The program is based at the MN Department of Agriculture and partners with the MN Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation. Withers has a B.A. in Speech Communications and Marketing from the University of Minnesota. |
Sue Knott Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom 6512016486 sue.knott@state.mn.us Sue Knott's agriculture roots were established on her family's farm in southwestern Minnesota. Experiences in 4-H, FFA and helping raise crops and livestock inspired her to earn a degree in agricultural education from the University of Minnesota. She taught high school agriculture classes for nine years before joining the Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom team as Education Specialist. In this role, Sue enjoys providing professional development that empowers educators to integrate agriculture into their classroom and curricula. |
