ABSTRACT INFORMATION
'Write your way to the farm'

Learn how one school teamed up with their State Ag in the Classroom Program to literally bring agriculture into the classroom. Participants will see how the program matched all grade levels with individual farmers and ranchers across the state for an interactive pen-pal program that included letters, classroom visits and Skype field trips. Participants will Skype with one of the producers that participated in the program and see video from the year-long project.

Biosketch: As Director of Education for Arizona Farm Bureau, Katie Aikins performs the educational functions of the Farm Bureau that contributes to an increase in agriculture awareness in the K-12 classroom and beyond. This includes the development of new curriculum and programs that engage the public in hot button issues in agriculture. Aikins holds a Masters of Science in Agricultural Education from the University of Arizona. She has worked in both the classroom and research side of agricultural literacy.

Biosketch: Sarahbeth Belvado is a classroom teacher in the Queen Creek Unified School District where she serves as a kindergarten teacher. At her school, Gateway Polytechnic Academy, Belvado serves as the lead contact for the partnership the school has formed with the Arizona Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Program.
