ABSTRACT INFORMATION
'Agriculture Measures Up!'

Join the staff from Virginia's Agriculture in the Classroom program for an interactive session that will use a problem-based learning approach to integrate agriculture into elementary STEM subjects. Participants will take part in a hands-on demonstration of area and perimeter with multiple grade and subject extensions. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to become agricultural engineers for the day in a lesson that combines mathematics and animal welfare.

Biosketch: As Education Coordinator with Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom, Lynn is responsible for curriculum writing, resource development, and the facilitation of educator workshops. A graduate of the University of Virginia, she received her Masters of Teaching and began her career as a Social Studies and then Gifted and Talented teacher in Hanover County before joining Virginia AITC in 2007. She lives outside Richmond, VA with her husband and children.

Biosketch: Tammy Maxey serves as state contact and senior education program manager for Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom. Prior to her tenure with AITC she served as a teacher and administrator in a rural school division for 18 years. Tammy lives on a small beef cattle operation. She received a post masters from Virginia Commonwealth University in educational leadership, a masters from Virginia Tech in vocational technical education, and her undergraduate from Virginia Commonwealth University.
