ABSTRACT INFORMATION
'Use Agriculture to "Get Environmentally Motivated" (GEM)'

Use Agriculture to “Get Environmentally Motivated” (GEM) is a fast paced, hands-on workshop that will provide you with an arsenal of natural resource activities, with many taking 10 minutes or less. Agriculture’s role in protecting and sustaining earth’s resources will be emphasized. Activities will touch upon current topics such as pollinators, NLRS, BMPs, etc. and will connect to Common Core, NGSS and STEAM. Use these “GEMs” to help you prepare for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2020!

Biosketch: Debbie Ruff has served as the Education Coordinator for Livingston County’s Farm Bureau and Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for 25+ years. She served on the Illinois mAGic (Multi-disciplinary Agriculture Integrated Curriculum)writing team. Debbie also conducts volunteer walk and talks and Project Learning Tree (PLT) educator events at local nature centers. She is a member of the Environmental Education Association of Illinois (EEAI) and is a certified Illinois Master Naturalist.

Biosketch: Suzi Myers taught students in grades three and four, as well as gifted student programs for 20 years. She was a member of the Science Curriculum Council and writer of district testing materials. She holds a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. Following her retirement in 2004, she became the Ag Literacy Coordinator for Kane County Farm Bureau. She served on the Illinois mAGic (Multi-disciplinary Agricultural Integrated Curriculum) Kit writing team. She teaches outdoor education in the area, is a Certified Naturalist, Saint Charles Natural Resources Commissioner, and member of EEAI (Environmental Education Association of Illinois).
