ABSTRACT INFORMATION
'Exploring Hydroponics!'

Participants will learn how to build, maintain, and implement the scientific phenomena of nutrient film technique (NFT) hydroponic systems as well as ebb and flow systems. Using easy to find materials such as soda bottles, PVC and sterile totes, teachers will be able to create single- and multi-unit hydroponic systems in their classrooms showing their students the power of growing plants in water! Participants will have a chance to learn about the daily maintenance and upkeep of hydroponic growing systems.

Mini-Workshop Session (activity should be easily demonstrated in 20 minutes and will be repeated 3 times on Friday)

Biosketch: My name is Denise Krohn. I was a middle school technology teacher in NYS for 33 years. Currently I am in my retirement from teaching and a technology integration specialist at a school in Northern, VT. My father was an agriculture education teacher for 37 years and inspired my interest with hydroponics in the early 80s!
